WELL…here it is, the end of the first full day of the New Year and the new decade, 2020.
Although my sweet wife, Carolyn, encouraged me prior to this morning, that today would be a day of REST…a day upon which I could uncase my guitars which have lain “hidden” in their respective cases for more than two years…a day upon which I could return to my studio and add more to the piece of Artwork which I had begun many months ago…a day upon which I could relax, watch some T.V., sip a beverage, and nibble to my heart’s content. HA!!!! Nope, it simply didn’t happen the way she had suggested.
My first day of 2020 was completely filled with a variety of tasks and unfinished work around the house. Now, believe me when I say that I am not at all dismayed with how the day went! I truly enjoy housework, cooking & cleaning, and tidying-up the home.
But, the day’s tasks were all completed with a tiny bit of Time to spare.
SO…I took the opportunity to do something which I haven’t done for quite awhile. I decided to take a walk, by myself.
ALONG THE WAY
Midway in my “journey” I heard voices behind me. As I turned, I recognized two of my neighbors (husband and wife) and their incredible Canine Companion. I stopped in my tracks…awaited their arrival. As they arrived beside me, I knelt to welcome their doggie, who was VERY receptive to my greeting. Then, after the three of us adults shared our most recent experiences, my neighbors continued on their “hike.” (Their footsteps were much more rapid than my own!)
After realigning my feet to my Journey, I traveled forward no further than 20-25 feet, when my eyes beheld something which I NEVER had expected.
AN OBLIGATION TO LIFE
A few days prior to this current afternoon, while I was driving home from my responsibilities at our regional hospital, my travel was redirected by the unexpected and rapid crossing of a squirrel running across the road. I was TOTALLY distraught! There was NOTHING I could do to divert from hitting that poor creature. I was emotionally devasted!
Now, however, lying on the edge of the roadway, immediately in the field of my pathway, lay that poor, poor squirrel.
He appeared hardly touched! No expected marks of what he had experienced…no broken bones, broken skin, etc.
SO…say or believe what you may about my Faith in ALL the Creatures of Eternity, I decided to take some action. Using my walking staff, I gently picked-up the squirrel, and crossed the roadway to the forest side. There I buried that unfortunate creature…and covered his “grave” with an abundance of leaves and tiny branches.
After a few moments to collect my thoughts, I continued on my Journey.
I walked down to the Espyville Marina, and out onto the breakwall...where I sat down to enjoy the rays of the setting Sun
MESSAGES
Can’t believe how incredibly BLESSED I AM!!! I’m alive..despite all the physical turmoil over the past two years.
A TRUE Miracle...so say my physicians and all the medical teams which have “worked upon me” since July of 2018.
Anyway...the rays of the Sun warmed my Spirit, and washed away all my fears.
Gradually, the Sun settled into the horizon, and the blue of the early evening sky began to spread across the Heavens.
After what was MORE than a short while, I rose from the bench upon which I had been ensconced, and began my trek homeward.
THEN…
I was halted in my steps by one of the greatest surprises of my Life!
As I made my way across the fields and headed back home, my eyes beheld yet another TRUE Miracle! There at my feet, was a message...a Dandelion blossom rose in FULL BLOOM, despite the harshness of the weather and the covering of snow. The Dandelion spoke in all the radiance of Eternity!
How did it know that it is my most favorite blossom?
Here’s what it whispered to me...NOTHING EVER LEAVES. THERE IS NO BEGINNING, AND NO END. AND WE ARE ALL CONNECTED. A TRUE Gift without any equal!
May the message of the Dandelion bless every moment of your every day!
AND…may the message written across the sky that early evening fill every day of your New Decade…and ALL the days of your Life!
